“Energy and persistence conquer all things.”
~ Benjamin Franklin“Nobody realizes that some people expend tremendous energy merely to be normal.”
~ Albert Camus“Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.”
~ Oprah Winfrey“The energy of the mind is the essence of life.”
Aristotle
I was thinking earlier today about the word energy. What exactly does it mean? How do we, as a people, use it in our day to day language? After all these years have you developed your own definition?
When someone says the word energy around me, the first thing that comes to mind is the universal fuel used for action of any kind. In the physical sense, it can refer to how much effort someone is willing to invest in an action or how much actually has been invested.
For me, energy and enthusiasm go hand in hand. I do not think I have ever been one but not the other. In the mental sense, energy represents how sharp my senses are and how quickly and lively my brain is responding to the demands posed against it.
From an emotional perspective, I would have to say that passion and enthusiasm with regards to any of the five basic emotions (anger, worry, fear, joy, guilt) consumes a huge amount of energy. This is why I have to routinely insert myself in my emotional process to watch my spending and decide if it is worth.
From a spiritual and a cosmic sense, I feel tingles in my toes when I am connected to the moment and am freely replenishing expended energy. While food does indeed help rejuvenate, ultimate renewal comes from nature: basking in the glow of the sun, inserting my feet into a stream, walking around an old forest, and feeling the breeze against my cheeks.
How about you? How do you relate to energy?
